ABOUT + FAQ

Bao Bei is a unique restaurant in Vancouver’s Chinatown that cultivates casual intimate dining experiences by providing small plates meant to be shared amongst a group of friends and family. Influences are taken from Taiwan and China but we are also inspired by a range of global flavours that form a more modern approach to Chinese cooking.

What does Bao Bei mean?
It means ‘precious’ and can be used in conversation referring to anything that has special significance to that person. ie: “Dude, this new car is my bao bei!”

Do you accept reservations?
Yes, we do. Please click HERE for the OpenTable website to book your table.

Do you have space for walk-ins?
Absolutely. We keep a few tables in the dining room, the high-tops and the entire bar for walk-ins.

Do you book large parties?
For larger parties of 6 to 10 we take bookings at the family table where we provide our Family Feast for $65 or $88 per person. It is available for an early or later seating. Please click HERE to check availability. A credit card number is required to hold the table.

Is there a place for us to wait for a table?
If there isn’t room at our bar, we usually send people to the Keefer, Chickadee or Mila for a drink and we will text you when the table is ready.

Are you peanut allergy friendly?
I’m sorry! If your allergy is severe and contact is not okay than we cannot guarantee that the food is safe for you as many of the Chinese condiments contain traces of peanuts.

Are you vegetarian/vegan friendly?
Yes, our menu items can easily be adjusted to be meat free like the fried rice and the sticky rice cakes and there is very little dairy or eggs on the menu.

Are you gluten free friendly?
Actually this is a hard one for us because soy sauce is fermented with wheat and it is a primary ingredient in most of the menu. That being said if you are okay in having a limited choice we can leave out the soy sauce and there is definitely some delicious items you can enjoy without wheat.

Do you use MSG?
Yes, proudly. It is present in some of the Chinese condiments that we use. However, just a heads up, glutamate is in everything delicious that you eat already. MSG just has added sodium to stabilize it and actually contains half the amount of sodium than table salt. Read THIS ARTICLE for more information.

Is there parking?
There is an abundance of parking with 2 parking lots on the block and plenty of street parking.
